RATOG stands for "Rocket Assisted Take-Off Gear," meaning it's a rocket-assisted take-off gear. RATOG was a device used on some variants of the British Supermarine Seafire fighter during World War II. The Seafire was a naval version of the famous Supermarine Spitfire fighter, used by the British Royal Navy in carrier-based air operations.
